  • When Grace Stirs Up the Dust Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return... Next time you order a coffee, think about the abundance of privileges we have and how blessed we are for his grace.
  • My Thoughts After Writing 'Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus' Last week I featured the 'Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus' video by Jeff Bethke. That video has been watched almost 20 million times and has been the center of a lot of discussion, both good and bad. This is Jeff's response to all of it... well worth the read.
  • Healer God An amazing story from Uganda. The hard does not minimize His goodness but allows us to experience His goodness in a whole new way.
  • Dry Spell Showers Are you a Mary or Martha? I think a lot of people don't want to be the Martha, but I loved how this author shows how great it can be. Martha with her business. Martha with her whiny plea for help in the kitchen. Martha with her accusation, "Where were you?!" Martha, with her decidedly not 'right' brain, encounters the truth about Jesus first. She calls him "the Christ" and acknowledges he is the Son of God and the Messiah. Martha gets it.
  • Trusting God in trying times I enjoyed the message behind looking at how Paul and Peter passed the time while in jail. Could you sleep? Would you sing?
  • Leap! It is easy to let days pass by, even the ones that don't happen but every four years. Is your next move going to be a step or leap?
  • Ways to Encourage Your Wife In the future I'll include a section for women and men, but this one was presented to me this week and was a great reminder.

Videos

Enable images so that you can play the video David Platt talks about how supreme love for Christ drives everything else we love. There is no priorities. There is just one. By the way, this was from a previous Verge conference, but it happens to be going on today and tomorrow and you can watch it via a live stream. 9 minutes Enable images so that you can play the video I knew I wanted to include Jeff Bethke's response post (linked above) for his video from last week and while I was on his site I saw his next video/poem. God has obviously blessed him with a great talent to say so much in so few words. 4 minutes

Books

  • 7: An Experimental Mutiny Against Excess by Jen Hatmaker
I haven't read this yet, but will be doing so soon based off great feedback from others. From the author's website: 7 is the true story of how the author (along with her husband and her children to varying degrees) took seven months, identified seven areas of excess, and made seven simple choices to fight back against the modern-day diseases of greed, materialism, and overindulgence.
  • My Favorite Bible by R. DeBoer, C. Tangvald, A. Pang
This is one of a couple bible story books that our kids love to read. I really enjoy this one because of its focus on Jesus and how the each story is written with excitement that I think the kids can really connect with. Lastly, great illustrations round out why this is a favorite (and not by title alone!).
  • What book are you reading now or maybe one that you would recommend? Just click reply to let me know and I'll include it in an upcoming issue.

Last week in issue #1 the two most popular items were both the videos: Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus and Luke Warm & Loving It. I received several comments back on both of them, so if you missed either be sure to check them out.
